John A. Shiflet, MSW, has been engaged in collegiate recovery for nearly two decades, beginning his journey in 2008 as an undergraduate student at the Center for the Study of Addiction and Recovery at Texas Tech University. In 2013, shortly after graduation, he launched
the collegiate recovery program at the University of Houston, where he supported hundreds of students in and seeking recovery from substance use disorders from 2013 to 2024, while completing his Master of Social Work degree in 2019.
In 2024, John joined University Health Services at Texas A&M University to establish and lead the Aggie Recovery Community, expanding recovery support infrastructure and cultivating a campus culture that prioritizes connection, compassion, and long‑term wellness.
With extensive experience in building recovery communities, mentoring students, and shaping collegiate recovery systems, he remains deeply committed to advancing access, equity, and excellence in recovery support across higher education.
