for Outstanding Contributions in College Health
2026 Recipient:
Suzanne Caccamese, MD | Towson University
Dr. Caccamese is the medical director of the Towson University Health Center, a role she has held since 2021. An internal medicine physician with more than 25 years of clinical experience, she earned her medical degree from Penn State University College of Medicine and completed her residency at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Prior to entering college health, she worked as a clinician-educator and primary care physician.
At Towson, Dr. Caccamese has led several initiatives to expand access to comprehensive student health services. She established a collaborative care psychiatry program that has significantly improved access to mental health support for students. She has also advanced reproductive health services by expanding contraceptive options and partnering with campus resources to provide free emergency contraception and over-the-counter oral contraception for students.
Dr. Caccamese is also committed to professional development, establishing a structured staff curriculum that enhances clinical knowledge and skills across the team, ensuring students receive the highest standard of evidence-based care. Her leadership reflects the principles of the Okanagan Charter, grounding student health services in quality care, prevention, and systems-level impact so that all Towson students have the support they need to thrive.
