Foundation Dollars at Work—Making a Difference

The goal of the American College Health Foundation is to provide long-term funding to support the field of college health. ACHF funding is used for special projects, educational opportunities, mini-grants and professional development activities that might not otherwise be supported through traditional revenue sources. As Foundation funds grow, the amount available for these purposes will increase.

The first funding provided by the Foundation was for two events held during the ACHA Annual Meeting in Philadelphia in 1999. ACHF sponsored both a "Student Challenge Course" event and the Diversity Reception. Since then, the Foundation has provided funding for various sessions and events at ACHA meetings each year. In addition, the Foundation provides support to enhance the Journal of American College Health through the Clifford B. Reifler Fund and offers mini-grants through the Koster Insurance Innovative Practices in College Health Fund.

ACHF funding, which directly benefits ACHA members, was made possible through the generous contributions of individuals, groups, and organizations. In order to continue providing increased levels of support each year and to expand funding beyond the scope of annual meeting activities to support projects and special areas of concern to the field, the endowment must grow. Over the next few years, the ACHF Board will focus on dramatically increasing the size of the endowment to achieve these goals.

Requests for funding are submitted directly to the Foundation. Each application is carefully reviewed by the ACHF Board of Directors in collaboration with the ACHA executive director. Final decisions are made by a majority of the ACHF Board.
