An ACHF partnership with the American Society for Emergency Contraception

Health and wellness vending machines are an emerging best practice to meet students’ basic needs, including harm reduction and over-the-counter (OTC) medications. While hundreds of wellness vending machines exist on U.S. campuses, they are not equitably distributed across geographic regions or institutional type.

The American College Health Foundation (ACHF), in partnership with the American Society for Emergency Contraception (ASEC) and with funding provided by a private donor, is making funds available through the Community College Vending Machine (CCVM) Grant Program to community colleges, community-based organizations, and public health partners serving community college students.

Eligible recipients must implement a new wellness vending machine program. Priority will be given to applicants in areas where adoption is limited and to particularly innovative proposals. The purpose of these grants is to increase access to affordable products that support student well-being and academic success.

Award Information

Awarded campuses will receive grants up to $10,000 to support implementation of a wellness vending machine that includes, but is not limited to:

  • Products that meet identified student needs and priorities, determined by student engagement
  • Over-the-counter contraceptive methods, including emergency contraception, Opill, and condoms

Request for Proposals

The Request for Proposals (RFP) and supporting documents are now available. Submissions will be accepted until 9 pm ET, April 17, 2026.

Applicants should upload the grant proposal, budget, signed letter of leadership support, and other supporting document(s) to the Grant Proposal Submission Portal (Google Form).

An information session was held on Friday, March 20, 2026. Watch a recording of the session HERE and view the slides HERE.

Project Outputs

ACHF and ASEC are partnering to develop a best-practices knowledge base for health vending machine programs on campuses without traditional health services. The resource will serve as a model for similar institutions, with a summative report anticipated in fall 2027.
