Edward Hitchcock Award for Outstanding Contributions in College Health
Ms. Tatum has 23 years of experience in college student health. In 2001, Tanya accepted the position of Associate Director of Thagard Student Health Center at Florida State University. At FSU, she supported health promotion, finance, accreditation, first responders, pharmacy, student insurance, and psychiatry.
In 2007, Tanya joined Florida A&M University as Director of Student Health Services (SHS). At FAMU, Tanya collaborated intensely with campus departments and academic units. Under her leadership, SHS integrated its services and support, easing student access to health/wellness services. Tanya served as Chair for the Assessment and Care Team, co-chair for the Clery Committee, University Emergency Management Team, Athletic Game Operations, Enterprise Risk Management, Compliance and Ethics, and other committees.
Under her leadership, SHS operates athletic event first aid stations and organizes campus/community health fairs, 5K runs, and other wellness activities. Tanya led the campus COVID-19 response, including a community COVID-19 testing/vaccination site and a CLIA laboratory for COVID testing. One accomplishment Tanya hopes to endure is the FAMU food pantry, which supports student success. Today’s pantry serves 60-100 students daily, distributing over 360,000 pounds of food annually.
