The Spring 2024 National College Health Assessment was conducted January-June of this year, with a record number of students and institutions participating in the survey.

With 103,639 students taking the NCHA on their campuses, this survey period marked the largest reference group since the survey became fully web-based, and the third largest since the NCHA began surveying students in the fall of 2000. The survey period also saw largest number of participating schools — 154 in total — in a single survey period.

Now in its 25th year, NCHA continues to provide vital data on student health, helping campuses measure student health and determine where to focus their resources. Some sample data from spring 2024 include:

  • In the last 30 days, 28.1% of students report having eaten less than they felt they should because there wasn’t enough money for food.
  • 71.6% of students report having visited a medical provider for a check-up or any other reason in the last 12 months.
  • 40.4% of students report feeling “somewhat safe” on campus at night.
  • 31% of students reported ever using tobacco or other nicotine delivery products.
  • Of students that have had vaginal intercourse within the last 12 months, 80.7% used a method to prevent pregnancy.
  • 35.2% of students report having received psychological or mental health services in the last 12 months.
