Why should colleges and universities invest in college health and wellness programs when it could be argued that such programs are not central to the mission of learning? Why not rely on the medical, health promotion, and mental health services available in the surrounding community? The answer cannot be overemphasized: health and well-being are foundational to college student success, and college health plays a critical role in the retention and matriculation of students by providing access to affordable, quality care delivered by professionals who are attuned to the unique needs of college students.

This framework outlines the principles of a comprehensive college health program and describes recommended practices, activities, and essential elements of collaborative, coordinated patient care and program management. It’s adaptable to a wide range of campuses and is intended to serve as a companion document to ACHA’s other guidelines, recommended practices, white papers, and position statements.

The Framework is available exclusively to ACHA members as a benefit of their membership.
