ACHA Affiliate New Professional Award
Presented for the first time in 2002, this ACHA award recognizes members who have provided service to the field of college health for five years or less and who have made significant contributions to their institution and/or affiliate.
NYSCHA Professional Awards
The NYSCHA Professional Awards honor the memory of three outstanding professionals in college health. The awards recognize the honorees’ leadership and commitment to college health on the local, state, and national level.
Awardees are recognized at the NYSCHA Annual Meeting.

The Susan Shearer Award for Dedication & Vision in College Health
Like Susan Shearer, recipients of this award have had an impact on the health of college students on their own campuses, as well as at the state and national level.
The Vincent J. Lamparella Award for Perseverance & Leadership in College Health
This award is given to college health professionals who, like Dr. Vincent Lamparella, have contributed their time, talents, and leadership to bolster and strengthen their own health service and/or NYSCHA when needed most.
The Clifford B. Reifler Award for Devotion & Passion for College Health
Recipients of the Clifford B. Reifler Award display the values and characteristics that are synonymous with those associated with Dr. Reifler – energy, initiative, generosity, forthrightness, high standards, and, most of all, a devotion and passion for college health.
NYSCHA Student Awards
The NYSCHA Student Awards recognize individual students and student groups that have contributed to the health of students on their campus and/or to the work of the New York State College Health Association or the American College Health Association.
Awardees are recognized at the NYSCHA Annual Meeting in October.

2024 NYSCHA Vincent J. Lamparella Award for Perseverance & Leadership in College Health
Margot Schinella, FNP-C, Vassar College
Congratulations to Margot Schinella, FNP-C, and Director of Health Service at Vassar College, who was chosen as the recipient of the 2024 NYSCHA Vincent J. Lamparella Award for Perserverance & Leadership in College Health. This award is given to college health professionals who, like Dr. Vincent Lamparella, have contributed their time, talents, and leadership to bolster and strengthen their own health service and/or NYSCHA when needed most.
Margot’s nomination reflected her commitment to student care is evident in her hands-on approach. Her innovative leadership has streamlined processes, doubled student visits, and created a seamless, student-centered healthcare experience.
ACHA Affiliate New Professional Award Winner
Samantha Warren, MPH, MCHES, CPH, Stony Brook University
Congratulations to Samantha Warren, MPH, MCHES, CPH, and Coordinator of Health Education at the Center for Prevention and Outreach at Stony Brook University, who was chosen as the recipient of the 2024 ACHA Affliate New Professional Award. This prestigious award recognizes professionals who have made a significant contribution to their institution or PCCHA in the 5 years or less that they have worked in college health.
Samantha works with the Physical Health and Disease Prevention team at CPO. She leads the Protect yOUR Health Interns and workshops, manages the health product distribution program through CPO and coordinates the Community Partner initiatives including HIV and STI testing. Samantha received her Bachelors in Science from Tulane University and her Masters in Public Health with a specialization in Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior from the University of South Carolina in 2014. Samantha is a Master Certified Health Education Specialist. Samantha has worked with college students on campuses across the country and is passionate about helping students take charge of their own health through education and self advocacy.
