Virtual Behavior Change/Harm Reduction: Preliminary Results of Online Substance Use Sanction Courses

Description: Utilizing evidence-based/evidence-informed interventions, this presentation will cover Eastern Illinois University's change in Dean of Students substance use sanctions courses to a virtual format. Topics covered in this presentation will include the rationale for the change from in person on digital courses, the process behind selection of content of the courses and their building, and preliminary responses from student's submissions. Other topics that will be discussed in the presentation will related to motivational interviewing, BASICS, and behavior change.
Presenter: Dr. Matthew Warner is currently the Assistant Director of Eastern Illinois University's (EIU) Health Education Resource Center. In his current role, he oversees health promotion of various areas ranging from Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD), nutrition, mental health, and sleep hygiene. Additionally, Dr. Warner is passionate about mentoring new professionals as he has mentored graduate assistants of various health focused backgrounds for six years. Dr. Warner holds a bachelor's and master's degree from EIU in Kinesiology and Sports Studies and a doctoral degree in Health Sciences from Indiana State University (ISU). In previous roles, Dr. Warner has been a lecturer for ISU's public health program and adjunct instructor and holds an exercise physiologist certification from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
