Katie is the inaugural Assistant Director of Health Promotion and Prevention at Grand Valley State University after spending four and a half years with GVSU Recreation & Wellness overseeing student wellness programming. She provides strategic leadership for health promotion work across the university with her amazing team of WIT peer educators, student assistants, and health promotion specialists. Prior to GVSU, Katie’s work was in public health. She began her career as a health educator and fitness center coordinator for the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi, supporting nutrition and exercise programming for tribal members. After that, Katie spent seven years as a public health educator with District Health Department #10 working primarily in sexual health and substance abuse prevention among youth.
Katie received her bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University, majoring in public health education & health promotion, Spanish, and minoring in nutrition. She received her Master of Public Health in health behavior and health education from the University of Michigan. Katie is grateful to live and work on the land of the People of the Three Fires. She honors their history and their continued care for the land.
