Dorothy became a nurse practitioner in 2000 and was hired at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. She was appointed to multiple university committees and became well known for her health advice , education programs to students and respected director and member of the health care team. In October 2005, she received the Rutgers President’s Recognition Award “in appreciation of outstanding service and contribution to the university community.”
Dorothy also worked closely with the Rutgers School of nursing and provided education advice to nursing students and became well known conducting many campus activities to all students.
She served as ACHA’s president in 2006-2007.
