How ACHA Members Can Take Advantage of a New CDC Funding Opportunity

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is providing additional funding to current recipients of the Strengthening Vaccine-Preventable Disease Prevention and Response Cooperative Agreement, CDC-RFA-IP25-0007, to support efforts addressing measles and other vaccine-preventable diseases.

The funding will go directly to state and local immunization programs, which will use it to strengthen outbreak preparedness and response, identify populations and communities at elevated risk, improve vaccination uptake, and support adherence to public health guidance during outbreaks.

CDC has encouraged college health centers to connect with their state and local health departments and explore opportunities to partner on this work.

How College Health Centers Can Participate

Although the funding builds on work supported through the Vaccines for Children and Section 317 programs, CDC has confirmed that the additional funding supports vaccine-preventable disease preparedness and response efforts for people of all ages.

Potential areas for collaboration may include:

• Improving vaccination uptake among college students and surrounding communities
• Supporting measles and other vaccine-preventable disease outbreak preparedness and response
• Identifying populations or geographic areas with vaccination gaps
• Developing targeted communications and education
• Strengthening coordination between campus health services and public health agencies
• Supporting vaccination clinics, outreach, or other locally identified interventions

What ACHA Members Can Do

ACHA encourages members who are interested in this work to contact their state immunization program or local health department and ask whether there may be opportunities for their institution to support activities included in the jurisdiction’s IP25-0007 Component 3 workplan.

Colleges and universities are not direct applicants for this funding. Instead, they may be able to serve as partners to state and local health departments as those agencies develop and implement their plans.

Current IP25-0007 recipients are expected to submit their workplans and budgets to CDC by October 15, 2026, so members interested in exploring partnerships are encouraged to begin those conversations soon.
