On behalf of the ACHA Board of Directors, we are pleased to share that the Board has authorized the formalization of Dr. Raphael Florestal-Kevelier’s appointment as Chief Executive Officer of the American College Health Association.
Since assuming the role of Interim CEO in December 2025, Raphael has provided thoughtful, steady, and mission-centered leadership during a period of significant organizational transition. Working in partnership with the Board of Directors, volunteer leaders, and staff, he has advanced implementation of ACHA’s Strategic Plan, strengthened governance and operational alignment, supported financial stewardship efforts, and positioned the association for long-term sustainability and impact.
The Board’s decision follows an evaluation process that reflected full confidence in Raphael’s leadership, strategic vision, collaborative approach, and commitment to ACHA’s mission and values. Throughout his service, Raphael has demonstrated an ability to bring people together, navigate complexity with transparency, and advance the work of the association while remaining grounded in service to our members and the field.
A longtime ACHA volunteer leader and nationally recognized higher education and public health executive, Raphael has served the association in numerous leadership capacities, including President, President-Elect, Board Member-at-Large, and Chair of the Health Promotion Section. Prior to assuming the Interim CEO role, he served as Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Health and Campus Wellbeing and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois Chicago. He previously held leadership positions at Columbia University, Emory University, and Oglethorpe University. His professional experience reflects a deep commitment to advancing student success, health, well-being, belonging, and institutional transformation across higher education.
As we look ahead, the Board believes this leadership continuity provides important stability and momentum as ACHA continues implementing its Strategic Plan, strengthening member engagement, advancing research and advocacy priorities, and supporting institutions and professionals dedicated to the health and well-being of college students.
We are grateful for the partnership of our members, volunteer leaders, affiliate leaders, and staff, and we look forward to the next chapter of ACHA’s work together.
