Letter From the ACHF Chair Michael Huey, MD

Hello, College Health and Well-being Colleagues:

Spring is an important time in the cyclical life of a college or university community. It is a time of endings, as new graduates leave to make their impact on the world. But it is also a time of beginnings, as we look forward to welcoming a new class of undergraduates and graduate students. We have a whole summer to get ready. Best to get started now!

The work done at ACHA has a significant impact on our colleges and universities, and therefore on the collective and individual health of our ongoing and incoming students. Your American College Health Foundation supports that work. Unlike my pre-retirement university (which I love), ACHA does not have a multi-billion-dollar endowment. Yes, I donate to my university, and to the university where I got my degrees. But ACHF/ACHA is a major philanthropic bargain for me, because gifts to ACHF truly make a significant contribution to the ACHA mission and strategic priorities.

This year, the Foundation has launched our “Broadening Our Horizons Challenge.” We aspire to raise $20,000 and reach 100 or more donors by the end of the Annual Meeting June 6, 2025. We are proud to announce that 100% of ACHF Board members have committed to supporting the Foundation with their individual donations. Join us by making a donation to the Foundation before or at the annual meeting and showing your support of student well-being!

In 2024-25, your Foundation is making great strides in partnering with key institutions to address critical student wellness issues. In this newsletter, you can learn more about our work and the progress we are making.

I hope to see you at the ACHA Annual Meeting in New Orleans!

Yours in Health and Well-being,

Michael Huey, MD, FACHA
Chair, American College Health Foundation Board of Directors

ACHF Collaborative Grant: Increasing Campus Vaccine Coverage (ICVC) Grant Program

ACHF is pleased to announce the Increasing Campus Vaccine Coverage (ICVC) Grant Program, made possible through generous funding from Pfizer, Inc. The $250,000 in funding will support sub-grants of $10,000-20,000 for campuses with innovative programs aimed at increasing vaccine coverage against meningococcal disease. These efforts will serve as resources and models for other institutions. The Request for Proposals (RFP) will open on May 27 and close July 11.

Broadening Our Horizons and Supporting Student Health and Well-Being: ACHF’s Annual Campaign

Join the American College Health Foundation in making a difference with our annual fundraising campaign! We’re aiming to raise $20,000 and bring together over 100 generous supporters by June 6. Your contributions help fund innovative projects and educational programs that advance student wellness and ensure equity in college health.

Thanks to donors like you, we’ve been able to allocate over $93,000 to crucial initiatives addressing food security, virtual health, and mental wellness. Additionally, we’ve supported aspiring health professionals with $3,500 in awards and invested $16,000 in professional development opportunities at the ACHA Annual Meeting.

This is your chance to impact the future of college health positively. Donate today and support projects that enhance student success nationwide!
