Letter from the Chair

Dear College Health and Well-being Colleagues,

When I concluded my three-decade career in college health and well-being, it was clear to me that there was so much more that I could and should do. I needed to continue to give back to this future-focused healthcare field that I loved, rather than just be a part of its past.  Serving as an ACHA College Health and Wellness Consultant has filled an important part of that need. The American College Health Foundation has filled the rest.

ACHF has launched a new partnership with the ACHA Board of Directors to help fund two key initiatives of the ACHA strategic plan: diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and accessibility (DEIJA), and the mental health challenges affecting students nationwide. As the Chair of the ACHF Board of Directors, I have the privilege of working on a new shared project with the ACHA HBCU Coalition. The goal is to generate NCHA data than can serve as a starting point for future research and intervention projects with Hispanic-serving institutions, tribal colleges, and community colleges. It is a lofty goal, to be sure. But it is a chance to move the needle in addressing health inequities on our campuses.

In the coming months, we’ll be sharing more details on this important initiative and how you can help support it. Together, we can all play a role in helping to address campus health inequities.

Yours in health and wellness,

Michael Huey, MD, FACHA
Emory University (retired)
Chair, American College Health Foundation Board of Directors
