Bylaws and Assembly of Representatives
The ACHA Bylaws document is the general operating manual for the association. It describes the organization of ACHA, sets forth rules on eligibility for membership, establishes responsibilities for operations and functions within the association, and sets forth the process and mechanism for changing the provisions contained within it. Those changes (amendments) are reviewed and approved by voting members of the Assembly of Representatives.
Bylaws
The ACHA Bylaws is a set of rules adopted by the association to provide guidance in governing its meetings and affairs. The bylaws:
- Define ACHA’s organizational structure
- Describe of the rights and duties of members
- Describe the association’s decision-making process
Amendments to the bylaws are voted on by qualified members at the Assembly of Representatives.
Assembly of Representatives
The Assembly of Representatives takes place each year at the ACHA Annual Meeting. During the assembly, qualified voting members of ACHA are able to shape the governance of the association through their votes.
What is the purpose of the Assembly of Representatives?
The Assembly of Representatives meets annually to establish overall organization practices by:
- The adoption of resolutions
- Action on amendments to the bylaws
- Review of ACHA’s activities
Who is qualified to vote at the Assembly of Representatives?
- Representatives of a member institution (RMIs)
- Section chairs
- Section chairs-elect
- Section designated representatives
- Members of the Board of Directors
- Past presidents of ACHA
- Alternate representative: Representatives of a member institution (RMI) who are unable to attend the Assembly of Representatives or are otherwise eligible may designate an alternate representative of their institution in the RMI’s place. A written request must be submitted at least one week prior to the beginning of the Annual Meeting on the institution’s letterhead to the ACHA National Office. You may send that request by email to membership@acha.org.
All regular and substitute delegates must be current members of ACHA.

Thirty (30) days prior to the Annual Meeting, the following materials will be available online for review by qualified voting members:
- Any recommended bylaws amendments
- Current ACHA Bylaws
- The Board of Directors approved Assembly of Representatives minutes from the previous year
