In 2025, Aderinola Omolade-Adunbi, MPH, a student at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, received the ACHF Student Travel Award to attend the ACHA Annual Meeting in New Orleans. Below, she shared what made the meeting meaningful for her.
The ACHF Scholarship helped take the financial burden off of me and allowed me to fully engage with all that ACHA had to offer. As a recent public health graduate, it was amazing to be surrounded by people who were passionate about advancing health equity and health education in the college space. It was truly inspiring to be surrounded by people from different professional backgrounds who all wanted to work toward the same goal. I’m glad that the scholarship gave me this opportunity to fully dive into the college health space.
The most impactful experience I had at the conference was honestly talking to other awardees at the awards reception. It was great to meet the other travel fund recipients, but also talk to the newly inducted fellows and innovation award recipients. Not only was it great to recognize their accomplishments, we had great conversations about their work, life path, and who they were as people.
Without this scholarship, I would have missed out on such an amazing conference! I learned so much not just from the sessions, but also from regular conversations I had with the people. This award exposed me to so many wonderful people and so much knowledge about the field of college health. The ACHF scholarships truly exemplify how one small act of kindness can make a huge impact in someone’s life.
