Land Acknowledgement
ACHA is deeply committed to building equitable systems that advance the well-being of our campus communities. This includes recognizing the land on which we reside and acknowledging the Indigenous people who have been, and still do live and work, on the land from time immemorial.
Colonialism is an ongoing process, and we need to be mindful of our present participation. We acknowledge that ACHA’s 2022 Annual Meeting is taking place on the traditional land of the Kumeyaay people, a place known today as San Diego. The Kumeyaay Nation extends from today’s San Diego and Imperial County in California to 60 miles south of today’s border with Mexico. Included with the Kumeyaay are the PaiPai, Kiliwa, Cocopa, Mohave, Maricopa, Quechan, Yavapai, Havasupai, and Hualapai people. We acknowledge the legacy that this land has nourished, healed, protected, and embraced them for many generations in a relationship of balance and harmony.
