
A note on nomenclature: ACHA is referring to the monkeypox virus as MPV to align with the nomenclature for other commonly transmitted infections in the college setting — e.g., Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), human papillomavirus (HPV) — that include virus in the acronym. This also aligns with the naming convention currently used by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP).
