ACHA Medicaid Advocacy Primer Posted

An estimated 5 million college students are expected to be eligible for Medicaid as a result of the program’s expansion under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). It is anticipated that shortcomings in Medicaid portability and provider access in certain parts of the U.S. may make it difficult for Medicaid-eligible college students to access health care while at school. ACHA has been exploring issues related to Medicaid coverage, eligibility, portability, and the use of Medicaid dollars to purchase student health insurance. The culmination of this work has resulted in a new document, the ACHA Medicaid Advocacy Primer [pdf]. The primer is intended as a tool that might assist college health professionals and administrators in developing their own local advocacy approaches for their state to authorize Medicaid payment of student health insurance premiums when deemed cost-effective.
