The purpose of the ACHA Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (ATOD) Coalition is:
- To maintain an active group of multi-disciplinary individuals
committed to enhancing the efforts to identify alcohol and other drug
use as a leading health and safety issue on our respective campuses.
- To be a mechanism for the exchange of information, resources, and
tools to address the many impacts that student ATOD use and abuse has on
a college campus.
- To identify and disseminate best practices addressing ATOD issues.
- To provide continuing education, advocacy, and professional development across ACHA.
Vision and Goals
In the Spring of 2010, the ATOD Coalition developed a Vision and
Goals Statement to guide the work of the group. They also developed a
comprehensive set of objectives specific to marijuana [pdf] . It is the intention of the Coalition to develop additional objectives relevant to all ATOD issues.
ATOD Coalition Vision
ACHA will be a recognized source of accurate, unbiased ATOD
use, abuse, prevention, and treatment information accessed and used by
college health professionals in the development of appropriate,
effective interventions for promotion of related college health
issues.
ATOD Coalition Goals
The ATOD Coalition goals related to ATOD are to support and encourage institutional efforts on college campuses to:
- Reduce negative consequences (physical, emotional, and academic) related to ATOD use;
- Advocate for research, outcome studies, and demonstrated effective interventions;
- Disseminate information to membership; and
- Build a consensus within the Association regarding appropriate goals and objectives relating to ATOD use on campus.
Please note: Any ACHA individual member (Regular, Student,
Associate, or Emeritus) may join a coalition; however, only Regular
Individual and Student Members may vote or hold office in a coalition.
