Next visit the Physick House, an elegant freestanding Federal mansion built in 1786 that was home to Dr. Philip Syng Physick, the “Father of American Surgery.” You will also visit the Mütter Museum at the College of Physicians, the oldest honorary medical academy in the nation. This museum is one of the few pathological and medical artifact museums. Its collection includes “the Soap Lady,” the death cast of Siamese twins Chang and Eng, a tumor removed from President Cleveland’s jaw, skeletons, and more.

Fairmount Park and Houses

Tour Fairmount Park, the largest landscaped city park in the country and the site of the finest group of authentic early American houses in the nation. Docents from the Philadelphia Museum of Art will lead you through these remarkable houses. You will also pass by Boat House Row, home of the “Schuylkill Navy” of Philadelphia and its rowing clubs. The classic Tudor structures along the riverside are beautiful landmarks and part of the park’s charm.

Valley Forge National Historical Park

Valley Forge National Historic Park

Saturday, June 5, 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm
$55.00

Of all places associated with America’s War for Independence, none conveys the suffering, sacrifice, and ultimate triumph more than Valley Forge. No battles were fought and no bayonet charges or artillery bombardments took place in Valley Forge, but thousands of American soldiers died during the bitter winter of 1777-78. Here you will tour General Washington’s Headquarters, visit the soldier’s huts, and visit the Memorial Arch and Memorial Chapel. Valley Forge is the story of an army’s epic struggle to survive against terrible odds, hunger, disease, and the unrelenting forces of nature.
