Charles "Chad" Henderson III, MBA
2002 NECHA Presidential Award Recipient

Talented professional. Supportive colleague. Team builder. While there are many words that define your work in college health, the theme of supportive, caring colleague underlies them all. At the head of the pack or behind the scenes, your exemplary leadership has offered growth and opportunity for others, providing vision and stability during changing times.

Your efforts at the University of Rhode Island have given voice to college health. Your involvement with NECHA and ACHA has carried that voice to regional and national communities. Your leadership has given college health professionals the capacity to focus on the critical issues that face us and the vision to transform challenges into opportunities while never losing sight of what ultimately guides us -- advocating and educating for the health and well-being of our students.

At URI you have been instrumental in numerous initiatives and projects to influence campus culture in critical areas. As architect of the Violence Against Women Prevention Committee, you secured grant funding for training, education and evaluation of a comprehensive program that has attracted statewide attention. You have been the driving force behind a comprehensive smoking cessation program that has moved the campus to a smoke-free community.

As NECHA president-elect and now as our president, your advocacy for continuing education and professional development has brought innovative programs to our annual meeting. Beyond that, you have shared your expertise with specific programs by cosponsoring summit sessions throughout New England. At the center of it all is a commitment to quality and accessible college health services and the well being of students and colleagues.

The President's Award for OUR president -- with great respect, gratitude and affection, the New England College Health Association is proud to commemorate all of your good work and outstanding service to college health with this award.
