PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
As more and more students choose study abroad programs in less developed regions, the primary care provider at student health centers needs to become familiar with diagnoses outside their usual differential for febrile illness. Many U.S. travelers going abroad are seeking more and more remote and less developed destinations. This is also true for students choosing study abroad programs. The lecture will address the febrile diseases that travelers may face and will illustrate the need for more coordinated counseling for students traveling abroad.
INTENDED AUDIENCE
This educational activity is designed for administrators; physicians and physician assistants; nurses and nurse practitioners; psychologists, counselors and social workers; health educators; pharmacists; and students.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
The participant should be able to:
- Identify the most serious febrile related illness that may occur in returned travelers.
- Discuss dengue fever, an emerging travel related disease.
- Identify disease using an algorithmic approach.
ACCREDITATION
- The American College Health Association (ACHA) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. This continuing medical education activity was planned and produced in accordance with the ACCME Essentials. ACHA designates this education activity for a maximum of 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Physicians should claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
- ACHA is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CREDIT
It is estimated that it will require 1.5 hours to view the download of this program and complete the post-test and evaluation. After viewing this program, go to the link provided at the end of the presentation to complete the post-test and program evaluation. We encourage participants to complete the post-test and evaluation form immediately after viewing the download. You will be tested on the content of the presentation. Those with a passing grade of 80% on the post-test will receive their CE certificate electronically within two weeks.
POLICY ON CONTINUING EDUCATION POST-TESTS
It is the policy of the American College Health Association that when a post-test is required upon completion of a continuing education activity, participants must receive a passing grade of 80%. If participants receive a grade lower than 80%, they will be given the opportunity to re-take the post-test one time. If they receive 80% or higher the second time, they will be awarded continuing education credits/contact hours for the activity.
