Greening Guidelines for ACHA Annual Meeting
We’re pleased to announce that we are working closely with our meeting management firm, Experient, and the Orlando World Center Marriott to establish “greening guidelines” for our meeting. While some of these efforts might be obvious to attendees — like the recycling bins throughout the registration area — others may not be as noticeable. Although we can’t guarantee that the hotel can accommodate every request, here’s a sampling of what we’re requesting:
Recycling
Bins such as these will be in place throughout the registration area.
- ACHA's Preliminary Program, Final Program, and brochures are printed by an environmentally friendly printing company certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Papers used are made from well-managed forests, controlled sources, and recycled wood or fiber.
Catering
- Fruits and vegetables should be locally grown seasonal choices only and organic also whenever possible.
- China and silverware are to be used as much as possible. If disposable is needed, use biodegradable products.
- Linen napkins are to be used as much as possible on all food and beverage events, including all breaks and meals (does not apply to outside functions).
- Under no circumstances should Styrofoam be used.
- Food on buffets will be labeled for those with allergies and also to showcase the sustainable menu items.
- Condiments should all be served in bulk and not individual containers when possible (this doesn’t apply to artificial sweeteners).
- Spoons (not disposable) will be used instead of disposable stir sticks for coffee service.
- Any table-side beverage service should not be pre-poured into glasses on the table.
Housekeeping
- Cards should be put in guestrooms that inform guests that towels will only be taken if on the floor and bed linens will only be changed every third day unless requested.
- Housekeeping should not leave lights, TV and/or radio on with turndown service.
- If there is in-room coffee setup for self service, use china mugs and do not use Styrofoam.
- Provide in-room recycling containers with instructions for attendees.
