Approximately 1,500 attended the Opening General Session, which featured acknowledgement of ACHA leadership and a keynote address by Gregory Blimling, PhD, vice president for student affairs at Rutgers University and past president of the American College Personnel Association.
Dr. Blimling used his breadth of knowledge in the area of student affairs to inform the audience on how students learn and what role the student health professional should play in student learning.
During the Opening General Session, President Dorothy Kozlowski presented a “Year in Review” slide show for 2006-2007 (.pdf, 1.8 mb) and delivered an emotional address in which she expressed her appreciation and gratitude to association members.
A presidential citation was awarded to Julie Louise Gerberding, MD, MPH, of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Gerberding expressed her gratitude for the work that ACHA and its members do via a videotaped acceptance speech (viewable below) and has sent a letter of thanks to President Dorothy Kozlowski. This year’s award winners and fellows were honored in a lovely ceremony on Thursday evening. The honorees told both touching and humorous tales of their experiences in college health and thanked their colleagues and families for their ongoing support.
A complete list of recipients and a downloadable copy of the program from the ceremony are available here.

95 exhibitors partook of the space in this year’s Exhibit Hall, which saw a steady stream of traffic throughout Thursday and Friday. Attendees were able to meet representatives and sample products from companies and nonprofit organizations.
Assembly of Representatives

This year’s Assembly of Representatives had an air of fun about it as several ACHA Board Members donned cowboy hats for the occasion. Lesley Sacher assumed the ACHA presidency from Dorothy Kozlowski after being “deputized” by the outgoing president (see photo above). The ACHA Social was held Friday night at Knibbe Ranch, where guests were able to cut loose after a week of learning. This event was much fun and included festivities such as line dancing and attractions such as Oreo the Bull and a trick roper.
